Mission Yoga’s Favorite Restaurants in the Mission District
The Mission District is not just where we sweat. It is where we eat, celebrate, wander, and feed our souls. Over 25 years of being in this neighborhood, we have tasted our way up and down Mission Street, Valencia, 24th, and every cozy side street in between.
These are the places we recommend to students, friends, visitors, and anyone who asks, “Where should I go after class?”
In no particular order, here are our top Mission District favorites, curated with love, flavor, and a little sass.
La Taza
Latin home cooking just steps from Mission Yoga
La Taza is a Mission District treasure and one of our closest neighbors. This cozy bistro serves authentic Latin comfort food with warm, homey energy. Their huevos rancheros win the crown in San Francisco. Yes, we have tried them all. The portions are generous, the staff treats you like family, and it is the perfect spot for a pre-class refuel or post-class brunch.
Great for: breakfast, comfort food, hanging with locals, anything involving eggs.

El Chato
Spanish natural wines and tapas that never disappoint
El Chato is a neighborhood favorite with a relaxed vibe, an impressive natural wine list, and tapas that hit the spot every time. Expect canned fish done beautifully, marinated olives, tortilla de patata, and dishes that pair perfectly with a crisp Spanish white. It feels like discovering a secret hideout, except everyone you know already loves it.
Great for: date nights, wine nights, sharing plates, “let’s catch up” evenings.

El Farolito
The greasy spoon of taquerias, in the best way
This is the Mission classic you take out-of-towners to when they want a burrito so big it can double as a free weight. It is fast, cheap, stuffed, and unapologetically delicious. A true Mission rite of passage. Whether you are stumbling in after a late class or grabbing something on the way home, El Farolito does not miss.
Great for: burritos, fast food done right, late nights, cravings.

Great for: post-class refuel, clean eating, food that feels kind to your body.
Beloved Cafe
Plant-based magic with teas to die for
Beloved Cafe is a vegan gem with an inviting vibe and some of the best juices and smoothies in the neighborhood. Their quinoa bowl is famous. Their nori wrap is craveable. Their tea selection could calm a hurricane. It is a place that feels wholesome, heart-forward, and full of light.
Great for: plant-based anything, wellness dates, cozy afternoons.
Foreign Cinema
A splurge worth splurging on
Foreign Cinema is one of the Mission’s most iconic dining experiences. California cuisine, beautiful ambiance, exceptional cocktails, and the kind of dishes that make you close your eyes for a second. Perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, or any night you want to treat yourself and your people.
Great for: date nights, celebrations, fancy evenings.

Hem by LeQuy
Vietnamese flavors with heart and craft
Hem by LeQuy serves soulful Vietnamese cooking with richness, balance, and authenticity. Reviewers rave about the broth, bold flavors, and shareable plates like garlic butter snails. It is warm, welcoming, and full of dishes that comfort and satisfy.
Great for: banh mi cravings, group dinners, flavorful comfort.
Lers Ros
Our favorite Thai restaurant in the city
No contest. Lers Ros wins. Their dishes explode with flavor, portions are generous, and the sweet chili clams should be illegal because of how addictive they are. This is the spot for big flavors, Thai comfort, and meals that leave you talking about it the next day.
Great for: spice lovers, group dinners, takeout on a cold night.
Zeitgeist
The ultimate Mission beer garden
The outdoor patio at Zeitgeist is legendary. A sprawling, sunny, loud, lovable beer haven that feels like a San Francisco rite of passage. Their craft brew selection is deep, the energy is pure Mission, and the people watching is top tier. We remember when this used to be a surly biker bar.
Great for: day drinking, summer afternoons, meeting friends, patio vibes.

Great for: beer flights, casual hangs, excellent bar food.

Emmy’s Spaghetti Shack
A low-brow classic with real Mission history
Emmy’s has been a Mission favorite since the early days, opening around the same time as Mission Yoga. The noodles are big, messy, and consistently satisfying. The vibe is quirky in the best way. With the new owner comes a refined cocktail program that pairs amazingly with the classic dishes.
Great for: comfort cravings, cocktails, nostalgic Mission vibes.

Lolo
What Cha Cha Cha used to be, reinvented with flair
Lolo delivers modern Latin tapas with vibrant flavors, playful plating, and a cocktail program that hits all the right notes. Think shareable bites, bright spices, and drinks that make you want to linger. It feels like a lively, updated version of what Cha Cha Cha once was, with its own fresh personality and plenty of Mission District charm.
Great for: lively nights out, tapas with friends, bold flavors, cocktail lovers, celebrating something fun.
20 Spot
A refined wine bar in a former record store
20 Spot is one of the Mission’s hidden gems. This intimate wine bar sits inside an old record shop, and that history is baked right into the vibe – you can hear it in the turntable and record collection that spins everything from Miles Davis to The Grateful Dead. The wine list is thoughtful, the snacks are elevated, and the atmosphere is relaxed but polished.
Great for: date nights, relaxed wine flights, intimate conversations, solo evenings with a good glass, design lovers.
La Taqueria
Possibly the best taqueria in the country. No, really.
While El Farolito is the neighborhood classic, La Taqueria is the Mission’s crown jewel. According to a very scientific study by the New York Times, it is the best in the nation. There is always a wait, but it is worth every minute. Ask for the off-menu dorado style for an extra crisp tortilla experience. The real star, though, is their irresistible green salsa. Everything on the menu basically exists to deliver more of it into your mouth.
Great for: burrito purists, legendary SF food experiences, long leisurely lunches, weekend cravings, anyone who worships green salsa.
Closing It Out
The Mission District is wild, wonderful, and full of flavor. These restaurants tell the story of the neighborhood we love, from Latin breakfasts to vegan sushi to craft beer gardens and everything in between.
Whether you are heading to class, recovering from class, or just exploring the area, these spots represent the best of what makes the Mission taste like home.
